What Is Routine Foot Care?

Routine foot care covers the regular maintenance that keeps feet healthy and comfortable, including toenail trimming, nail debridement, corn and callus management, and general skin care. For many people, these tasks become difficult or unsafe to manage at home, whether due to reduced mobility, limited flexibility, poor circulation, or health conditions that require professional attention.

At Stayner Foot Clinic, routine foot care is one of the most common reasons patients come through the door. Seniors, patients managing diabetes, and individuals with conditions affecting their feet or lower limbs make up a large portion of the practice's regular care schedule. Jannel Somerville, Chiropodist, has been providing this type of care to the Stayner and Collingwood area since 2014.

Routine foot care is not a cosmetic service. It is a clinical one, and when performed by a registered chiropodist, it includes a full assessment of foot health alongside hands-on treatment.

How Routine Foot Care Works at Stayner Foot Clinic

Routine foot care at Stayner Foot Clinic is provided by Jannel Somerville, Chiropodist, and William (Will) Stewart, BA., D.Ch., Chiropodist. Appointments include a clinical assessment of the feet, toenail trimming and debridement, management of corns or calluses if present, and skin care as needed.

For patients managing diabetes, routine foot care takes on added importance. Poor circulation and reduced sensation can make foot problems harder to detect and slower to heal. Both Jannel and Will are experienced in diabetic foot care and bring careful attention to each appointment that high-risk foot conditions require.

Will holds an Honours BA in Kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario and graduated from the Chiropody program at The Michener Institute with distinction in 2022. He grew up in the Collingwood area and is proud to be back serving the local community. Patients who find it difficult to reach their feet, who have thickened or curved nails, or who simply want professional care rather than managing at home are welcome at the clinic.

What Routine Foot Care Can Do for You

Regular chiropody care helps patients maintain comfortable, healthy feet between visits. Most patients notice immediate relief from discomfort caused by thickened nails, corns, or calluses following their appointment.

For patients with diabetes or reduced circulation, consistent professional care reduces the risk of complications from undetected skin breakdown or nail problems. For seniors, it supports continued mobility and independence.

Routine care is also how Jannel catches early signs of more significant foot conditions before they become larger problems.
